Snapshot Survey: What You Told Us About Medicaid Reform

Thank you to everyone who participated in the March Snapshot Survey on Medicaid Reform in North Carolina. The results reveal you want more information about the process the state is currently undergoing to transform the Medicaid program to managed care.

Just over 49 percent of respondents said they were not fully versed in the process and could use more information about it, while 29 percent said they were not aware of the changes, but would like to learn about them. Thirteen percent felt they were sufficiently informed.

To learn more about the history of the legislation that led to the move to Medicaid managed care in North Carolina and the lengthy and complex transition, visit the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) website and enter Medicaid reform in the search box. A comprehensive assortment of articles will give you the background and bring you up to date. You may also visit the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) Medicaid Transformation website to access documents and the concept papers on how NCDHHS anticipates the change will play out for physician practices. The NCMS has been working with the Department on these papers.

Another interesting takeaway was that 34 percent of you will continue to see Medicaid patients throughout the transformation to Medicaid Managed Care, although 47 percent were waiting to see how the new system works before deciding if you would change the number of Medicaid patients you accept.

We are continuing to analyze the results and will provide updates. Your responses are extremely helpful as NCMS leadership strives to make this a positive transition for both you and your patients.
